Shake Holes 12:44
They perished in the fire With water all around To die on the ship among the flames Or in the sea be drown The perils of the ocean deep The roaring mountainous waves Nine hundred souls were lost that night In their burning watery graves The fleeting day ends too late And results in discontent They talked until the words became noise Unable to make sense of hate Held with contempt and distain Imprisoned without compassion Structures strained to keep it contained Fracture and break under weight Endeavor to work within the rules Despite their inconsistencies Blunt tools in the hands of fools Bring us down all the same Whisper for silent night And when they scream Howl to the moon To drown them out Oh the lowest Oh the low Hold out your hands/Worked to the bones And bed for more/ They beg for more

Bleak Laws 04:23
In time the river erodes the stone Immovable objects Stripped to the bone Piece by piece Drifting away Becoming something else By another name Bleak hills and bleaker still The rules that bind us to them Forgotten ills And the rules instilled Driving us to conquer Our statues cast shadows Blocking the sun Loomed and lauded Until their day comes One by one Into the ark Olive branches raised up Leaves stripped bare Intentions are lost If they existed at all And history shows Not a dictator’s fall Year after year Passing by Stubborn resolve Working to redress In time the river will change its course Immovable objects Transformed by force Grain by grain Dragged from the earth Becoming something else Never to be the same

I can’t share the memories yet But you know they’re here Desperate to make sense of past Perception skewed by fear Butterflies and hurricanes And tiny specks of dust Nothing left means a thing And iron becomes rust Silent consideration Behold each breath Offer illumination Sparks that burn and sear The earth Words have failed to capture it An image held in mind The dread of who met each day And what was left to find Mistakes were made on all sides And accidents occurred Intent becomes irrelevant When sorry won’t be heard Behaviour caught in history Ingrained in every thought Impossible to separate From all that we’ve been taught Considering endlessly each minute sound To mitigate what’s to come if we may be found Abandon every memory In the hope we can renew The walls we built brick by brick Torn down by us too soon When the dust has settled And the broken pieces lie Fractious moments resolve At the table where we meet Recount each sorry loss Failures only disappoint Repentance takes its toll When it’s all said and done Destruction greets us all Every step is harder than the last Than the last Than the last

Patience leaves those who wait too long to see what they become Roots that anchor drag us down until will fall and rest on ground Leaves that fall stretch too high to see their demise Fog remains all through the day when will night dissipate Wonder keeps us hopeful until despair is realised, until despair Trust will wait for proof of worth resistant to pain and hurt Holding on to words we shared can’t let go of what was heard Grasping at the crumbling banks trying to stop your descent Hold until your grip is lost and all held close is dropped Persevere and struggle on through water tread and spinning wheel Enough to feel successive gain against attempts failed by constraints Forgiveness on another day distanced from moments we exchanged Make requests and feel remorse to pull on others is too much

Contracts 04:01
Let’s start with the end And begin in defense To know but never be owned One way not the other Resolved to change Estranged from where you began Expectation lost in desperation Laid out for all to see So sure how it all will end How do we start to pick it all apart again Commit to see All it could be If only you could keep on track Avoid old habits And thoughts in your way You’ve seen it all before We begin again And soon reach the same end Without you there to guide But today we insist Change will remain With nowhere left to hide

All the hours everyday We’ll keep working to get wor pay It’s not enough to live a life Every day is pain and strife Forty years and the rest They tell me that I should feel blest But I work and toil in clay That’ll shortly be me grave All the days in the week The time spent working’s getting bleak No time for the bairns or meself It’s becoming a living hell We dig the dirt and fire the steel While our bosses dee the deals Mine the coal deep underground No light in tunnels to be found All the months in the year It’s getting harder each day to care Worn down by the daily grind Feel I’m slowly loosing me mind Me manager said I’d get a raise I went home singing his praise Two weeks later I ain’t seen nowt He’s barely giving us out All the years until I die Finely in me grave I’ll lie It’ll then be time to rest Together with the workers best Grown your food and built your house While you’re out shooting grouse So cold and wet I can’t feel pain Or see the work I do’s in vain

Swallows skim even when the grass is low Streams will trickle when the reservoirs go Yarrow rises up when thistles tire Open up the gate and step into the meadow Rest for the journey has been long Sit a while and observe what occurs What was once distant now is too close Vision will adjust when light falls right Seventeen routes committed to ink And an eighteenth begun anew Across the valley and down the lane Natures refuge from mans cruel hands With so much to save and too much to lose How is one supposed to choose Illumination from the smallest flame In the darkest tunnel guides the travelers way Thoughts shower down like rains from the West Shelter until the sun breaks the clouds Where will and grace and love converge In the meadow you will grow

Former drug dealer seeks redemption through folk music.

Oak-aged heartcraft from the pitscarred heathland of County Durham. Starkfelt sketchings of lifespaces through flat vowels and strictly necessary guitar-bedding.
